Brendan O’Connor, Minister for Home Affairs, says that an R18+ rating for video games will be introduced in Australia in a matter of months.
Speaking to GameSpot, O’Connor said the new rating will be implemented pending that NSW agrees to the amendments, which it is expected to do.
In the event that Greg Smith, of NSW, does not agree with the overhauled classification system, a spokesperson for O'Connor said that the federal government is willing to override the state. If that were to happen, NSW would be the only state not able to sell R18+ games.
The debate will continue to linger; however, an R18+ rating before the end of the year is finally a strong possibility.
