Kero's MMGN Ink for Movember - The Tattoo

Featured 107 Comments 63 Votes 2989 Views 23/11/2011 Back to News

MMGN member Kerosanak was inking for a cause this morning, as he had the MMGN.com logo tattooed on his wrist.

Not satisfied with just growing a seedy mo for Movember - to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men - Kero accepted donations to get his tattoo from supporting MMGN members - and he's still accepting with 7 days to go.

Check out all of this pictures of his stylish new ink below, but more importantly, PLEASE donate to a great cause!

Nice and growing a tache wasn't enough? I over-reacted, it could have been worse had you got MMGN on ya too...

Kerosanak said: I got a cool tattoo and raised money. Thats what Ive done.

You sure did, nice work.
that's awesome
I could have just done that. But I wanted to make it a memorable first year doing it. And something like this grabs a bigger donation than just growing a mo.

One question......why are the tips rounded and not square like the logo?

sjt333 said: now get a tattoo of your moustache

I asked them to round them off to fit in better with the other tattoos I have on the same arm.

You do it Sam.
he actually did it? LOL
That, Sir. Deserves a donation!

great work man, you're a trooper
Ummmm sorry, while there are those who are supporting this i am just going to be honest.

IMO As a tattoo that looks crap.

IMO getting a tattoo of the entertainment website you frequent, especially when the logo is nothing special and there are a million other creative ways you can raise money without having to permanently mark yourself is all sorts of [Facepalm]

Seriously dude wtf

you do understand that the power symbol has been around for decades right
Th edges of that symbol are abit rounded compared to the Actuall mmgn symbol thats flat n sharp.. [Facepalm]

It's alright folks, you don't have to wear them, so I don't mind you losing sleep over it ^_^

I talked about the edges up further, I've got more tattoos on the same arm, so I rounded them all to fit in better.
I'm sure I have seen things from thinkgeek.com you can buy with the power symbol so it doesn't have to always symbolise the mmgn logo .. say if they change it or kero hates the site one day.. so it's all good :)

I really hope you are joking. Movember is probably the most well known fundraiser event in this country - i doubt anyone who has read this article did not already know about it.

So if that forms the basis of your reasoning for getting this tattoo you really need to reassess the logic you have applied.

And dont be fooled by the words of support being expressed by those who run this site - it is an inescapable fact that it is in this site's interest because now they can have an article saying "look at what our member has done - isnt MMGN awesome?!!!" and use it to promote MMGN. What makes it even harder to name that self-interest is that they can further cloak it under the guise of "its for a good cause."

That is not a criticism of those who run the site, but their is a self-promotion component to their support of this.

This is also not a value judgment of you, i just think this was a really bad idea dude.
That's fine, you don't have to wear it. Just like I think spending $500 on a video game is stupid, I just didn't feel the need to go on about it.

If what I've done bothers you that much, feel free to pay for me to get it removed, I approached the site to get it done, I paid for it, I sent the photos. The fact is, I could have done this in two weeks time and posted about it in the tattoo thread and no one would have batted an eye at it. This is just looking for an excuse to complain about something.

Besides, it's probably safe the say the people from the site who donated to me yesterday probably wouldn't have done so otherwise, the goal was reached, I raised more money and I got a tattoo that I enjoy out of it. So kindly jog on.
who spends $500 on a video game? pffft how stupid.
Well done Kero! Looks great!

Where is your 'stash though? Can't really see it in the photo? :P
It's wispy as hell haha. I need to update my Movember profile, it's not much better than a week ago, but it's something :P

I donate each day by supporting people, on a daily basis, who have serious depression both men and women. And i can assure you it is in a far more meaningful way than getting a tatoo on my arm and sending some money to a charity without any real idea of what happens to that money.

I never said it was stupid. Your words, not mine. I am questioning the logic being used in you doing this - it is highly flawed.

If you do not want peoples opinions on this, you could have gone down the path of being truly charitable and not put this out on the internet where people, myself included, are free to comment. What would have been more impressive would have been making changes in your own life that support the aims of what Movember tries to do....ie fight depression and prostate cancer in men.

What is it about? Mens health.

Had you said you were going to start an excercise program for YOURSELF in the spirit of movember's focus being mens health and would accept donations i would have donated in a heart beat. That shows true committment to not just the aims of Movember, but living it through your actions.

Donate money because you walked into a tattoo parlour and got inked? No.

You put this act out there so accept the comments which you both like and dislike.

I will not apologise for being honest.
Liking or disliking doesn't bother me one bit, it just seems if you're so against me putting this up the internet, you'd stop commenting and let the article die sooner, it'll be off the front page before you know it and you'll forget it ever happened.

I enjoy tattooing, I'd much rather do that to try and help on my personal level of charity, it makes me happy, consider that me fighting my own depression.
I'll be honest, I would've donated whether or not he got a tattoo or not whenever I felt like it, if I didn't feel like it by the time the event passed oh well.

This isn't some kind of competition anyway, he didn't pull of a stunt so he can 'win' he did it to get more donations for a charity event (not entirely sure if it's a stunt to him perhaps he wanted it at some point and this was a bonus), he's not bragging like how much better he is by getting this tattoo and earning this amount of money for the cause to everyone else that's doing the same thing IMO he's quite humble about it if anything.

Kero's still going to be the tattoo guy with a pomeranian I want to cuddle at the end of the day, but Pilkingbod to me will forever be morgan grimes from Chuck [Derp]
Prime, you donate each day? Have you got receipts to back that up?

Kero has raised $300ish for charity in the last few weeks alone. Instead of paying $500 for a video-game to benefit yourself, why don't you spend some of that on charity?

Stop being a dick, Kero didn't get the tattoo for charity. He got the tattoo cause he loves tattoo, the fact that the tattoo got people to donate more money to his fundraising is just an added bonus.

Move on.
ben can you make it so kero gets emails every time someone comments on the article? i will comment every few hours if you can

[Facepalm]

Stop thinking. For 2 seconds.
Guys, who really cares how he goes about it? It's his choice.

Kero still grew the mo - following the official "rules" of Movember.

He then decided to take it further, for more donations, with a tat. To some, that may seem crazy. But it's obviously something he really enjoys. I can't really talk, as I'm not a tat man myself, but it obviously really means something to him that the rest of us probably don't understand.

He raised a lot of money, and got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Win-win as far as I see it. Why not do something you enjoy to raise more money as well as grow the mo?

It's way better than the people who grow a mo in Movember and claim that but don't bother to actually raise a cent.
Out of curiosity, do you get tattooed by the same artist each time?

Did anyone one ask you about what you do? No. Shh.

I am questioning the logic being used in you doing this - it is highly flawed.

Why? He got a tattoo that he wanted, and in doing so he could combine getting that tattoo with raising awareness for Movember on this website, which, in turn has allowed him to get more donations towards Movemeber. I don't know why this bothers you so much.

I will not apologise for being honest.

Don't. You should apologise for being a complete and utter tool. It doesn't matter how the money was raised if it was in good spirit, he's donating money to a good cause.
Wow, for your sake I hope MMGN doesn't change logos =D

Matteh said: Out of curiosity, do you get tattooed by the same artist each time?

I go between 2 people depending on what days I'm free to get it done. I've only had one done by the 2nd person though.

Milky said: Prime, you donate each day? Have you got receipts to back that up?

I don't think he meant cash.

I think Prime may work closely with people less fortunate than himself.

Charities can be a whole load of BS, really. I've been donating to OXFAM ever since the 2004 Tsunami. Have I really helped anyone? Maybe. I just donated to Movember, have I saved anyone. Most definitely not. But I donated because I felt it was right.

Kero didn't do this because he felt it was right. He didn't think he was making a difference, it was just a bit of fun.

Getting a tattoo isn't something I'd really do but each of their own. He didn't hurt anyone, cept maybe himself for a coupla days :P
Beta
+
I think what @Prime needs to realise -- and so many other of the anti-Movember folk out there -- is that not everyone has the capacity or interest in contributing to charities as casually, often, consistently as they do. It's just a fact. Deal with it. People have their own lives to deal with. Sounds harsh? Bad luck. It's a good cause, it means good, and so what if it's mainstream? People bitch and say, "Oh it's just douchebags growing a moustache trying to be cool and pretending they care". Well, maybe they do? Who are you to judge?

We all know that @Prime works and contributes, probably more than most of us, but that doesn't give him a right to get on someone who really only means the best. He's acting like what Kero is doing is diluting the work that he does for whatever charities/disadvantaged people. It doesn't. This whole thing is really just to get everyone involved.

The very reason people bitch about Movember is really just criticism for the very thing it sets out to achieve: to get people that wouldn't normal contribute, contributing.

You're never going to get the average blow joe to contribute without incentive. People have their own problems to deal with. This is a good cause. Just because it doesn't follow the unwritten guidelines set out by frequent contributors, doesn't mean it doesn't help. At least everyone is talking about it.

The sad thing is that Movember has turned more into try-hard humanist dills being critical of the people that get involved, as opposed to it actually raising awareness for men's health. I see more people bagging it out and saying things like, "why don't you donate at other times during the year", rather than "thanks for contributing".

Get real people. Good on you Kero. +1 and godspeed.

BTW, no offence for the "Kero didn't do this because he felt it was right. He didn't think he was making a difference, it was just a bit of fun." comment.

I was just trying to point out to Prime that you doing this should be right and should make a difference isn't the case. All in the name of fun, really.

And NO ONE needs to tell Kero what should make him feel good. =D

And this:
