- 35% of Australians download digital content to view later
- Just 21% stream
- 30% is kept indefinitely
Research released by Panasonic, via Kotaku, shows that Australians prefer to download and keep digital content - including movies, tv shows, videos, e-books, games, and anything digital - rather than stream it directly from the source.
The research showed that 35% of content is downloaded to be viewed later compared to 21% that is consumed through a streaming service.
Furthermore, 30% of all content is downloaded and then kept indefinitely. Participants in the research downloaded an average of 7GB of digital content per week (probably not Steam gamers during the Christmas sale then).
"There is definitely a trend towards streaming-based entertainment but right now there is a strong preference for physical ownership of content," said Sophie Barton, Group Marketing Manager at Panasonic.
However, Panasonic is unsure why Australians like to keep their digital content, especially after they've consumed it.
"There does seem to be some connection between the substantiveness of the entertainment like longer movies or e-books, and preservation, however we would need to do further investigation in this area."
