If series creator Mitch Hurwitz gets his way, Arrested Development will return not only with the long-awaited movie, but with a new television season first.
Since finishing after three seasons in 2006, Arrested Development has found a new following and been touted as one of the best TV comedies ever made.
At a reunion over the weekend featuring the entire cast, along Hurwitz, it was confirmed that new TV episodes are planned.
"Mitch Hurwitz says he plans limited Arrested Development series (9-10 eps, 1 character per ep) that would lead into movie," tweeted Dave Itzkoff who was in attendance. That explains how it will be possible with most of the cast already committed to other projects and unable to complete an entire season.
Will Arnett later tweeted "I'm peeing with @batemanjason at the moment..and we can confirm that we are going to make new AD eps and a movie."
Followed by Jason Bateman saying "It's true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early '13. VERY excited!"
While it all sounds great, fans will know not to get too excited until it happens. The movie has been in talks since the show finished five years ago and has been on-and-off again ever since.
