I find it hard enough to live In a town where I bump into people I know constantly and sometimes you just wanna be left alone That's when you become the local crazy cat lady. People will cross the street to escape conversation with you

Pilkingbod said: For a white, middle-class child, like I assume you are gammaray13, it's very easy to think that way. For that, you are excused. Drugs are often a gateway from the horrific realities many under-privaliged individuals experience everyday. They feel that there's no other way out. Of course, Housten is a completely different case, but to say "you either take drugs or you don't" is a very impractical and ignorant sentiment. I used the comparison with a fat person for a reason. A fat person is often lazy, and maintains unhealthy dietry habits - something that can be overcome with willpower. Drug addiction is a deeper social problem that cannot be cured by a bit of self-belief.
Pilkingbod said: Your entire paragraph was under the assumption that I had no experience in the matter... and my problem is that I assume? Okay. We can go back and forth all we like, but if you're seriously questioning where under-privileged people get the money for drugs as a genuine argument, I can safely assume that you have no experience in the matter either, let alone streetsmarts. You're from Adelaide, for christ's sake. You've never seen a beggar? Remote Aboriginal communites, where children as young as 8 get off their head on whatever they can get by any means necessary. Those sorts of people aren't in the position to just say "no", and turning a blind eye to that won't help the deepening social issue any more.
